The Barotse Royal Establishment has set March 28th, 2026 as the date for this year’s Kuomboka Traditional Ceremony.
The announcement was made by Manyando Mukela, the Ngambela of Barotseland at the Mboo Kuta this morning.
He urged everyone to begin preparing their traditional attire, the Musisi and Siziba, ahead of the Kuomboka ceremony.
He said preparations for the ceremony are ongoing and appealed to government to assist the BRE by clearing canals from Lealui to Limulunga, as well as the route leading to Mulamba Harbour in Mongu.
He explained that clearing of the Moyowamo canals remains a challenge and the blocked waterways may hinder the smooth passage of the royal barge, the Nalikwanda, from Lealui to Limulunga Royal Village, potentially delaying the arrival of his Majesty the king, Lubosi Imwiko II.
During the ceremony, the royal barge, the Nalikwanda, moves from Lealui to Mulamba Harbor in Mongu District.
The Kuomboka ceremony refers to the movement of the Litunga from his ‘flooded’ house (Lealui), in the villages of the Barotse Floodplains, to his ‘winter’ house (Limulunga) on the higher ground.
