- HH urges citizens to use Xmas festivity to renew commitment to peace, unity, reconciliation

AS CHRISTIANS globally observe Christmas today, President Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to use the festivity to renew their commitment to peace, unity and reconciliation, while celebrating responsibly.
Mr Hichilema says there is need for people to honour the true meaning of this Holy Day, by spending time with families, friends and loved ones – to pray together, give thanks and appreciate the grace of God upon Zambia.
“Let us avoid excessive drinking, refrain from driving under the influence, and ensure our roads remain safe and secure for all. Every life matters, and every journey must be taken with care,” the President said in his Christmas message.
Every December 25, Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, which occurred over 2,000 years ago.
“The birth of Christ itself is a powerful symbol of dialogue and reconciliation, God reaching out to humanity in love.
“…it reminds us that even in times of difference, unity is forged through understanding, humility and peaceful engagement.”
Mr Hichilema said as a nation, this sacred season calls us to renew our commitment to peace, unity and reconciliation.
“Christmas shows us what truly matters: that love binds us together as one people, and that generosity can heal divisions,” he said.
It is the President’s desire that this Christmas will “renew in us the spirit of compassion, humility and unity for the prosperity of the nation”.
“May it strengthen our resolve to build a peaceful and prosperous Zambia, grounded in God’s love,” Mr Hichilema said.
The President said Christmas began as a gift of hope and love to a world in need.
“…the Christmas story began with the fulfilment of a prophecy spoken long before: ‘For to us, a child is given… and He shall be called wonderful counsellor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’.”
Mr Hichilema said this act was the fulfilment of God’s promise, adding that it marked the beginning of a divine plan for the redemption of humanity.
“As we celebrate, let us remember those who are less privileged. The true spirit of Christmas is found in giving, in sharing what we have, and in ensuring that no one among us feels forgotten.
“We wish every Zambian a blessed, prayerful, joyful and safe Christmas,” Mr Hichilema said, and spoke a blessing on the nation.
