Funds to address sanitation issues at Great East Road campus

GOVERNMENT has released K23 million to address the sanitation issues at the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East
Road campus.
Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for technical and educational services Kennedy Mambwe also says Government has instituted investigations to establish circumstances that led to the death of 18-year-old UNZA student Emmanuel Bwalya.
Emmanuel died on Tuesday night after he fell in a pit filled with water within the university premises
Addressing the students yesterday, Dr Mambwe said works to address the sanitation issues at the higher learning institution will start soon.
“That money has come. It is a matter of time, you will be seeing serious works going on to ensure that the situation is improved,” he said.
Dr Mambwe said Government will provide additional mobile toilets across the campus starting today.
He said the number of water bowsers will also be increased to ensure continued supply of clean and safe water.
Dr Mambwe further said Government will conduct an audit across the university to see any facility that can lead to injury or death is taken care of.
